WTCA AM reached the milestone of forty-five years in serving the Marshall County area on August 19, 2009. Founder and now co-owner, Kenneth E. Kunze saw numerous broadcasting opportunities for Marshall County. In 1963 he was granted a license from the FCC to operate WTCA-AM 1050. When WTCA had it’s beginning, all productions were broadcasted from its transmitter site on Muckshaw Road with a business office on Water Street; however, in 1965, the broadcasting operation was moved to the Water Street location in order to accommodate an ever growing listening audience. Much to everyone’s surprise, the station prospered from the start due to the community’s support. As a result, in 1966 the old Plymouth Dairy, located at 112 West Washington Street was renovated into a broadcasting studio that still remains today.

In the early days, Ken’s wife Jeanne Kunze broadcasted a live public interest program each day called “This and That”, a tradition in which her daughter, Kathy Bottorff continues to this day with “What’s Your Opinion”.

In 1966, Community Service Broadcasters, made up of the Kunze Family, expanded the operation by putting WTCA-FM on the air. The FM operations have changed call letters several times over the years and are currently licensed as WZOC-FM. This station also broadcasts from the 112 West Washington Street address. The transmitter that services the station is located in Lakeville.
